Juniper Level Botanic Gardens is seeking a Seasonal Garden Staff member to help care for a remarkably interesting world-class garden right here in Raleigh, NC. The predominant role of this position is pulling weeds on a routine and daily basis. This job will consist of going around and hand pulling weeds in predetermined problem areas in the garden. While not being a physically demanding job, it does however require bending, stooping and being outside in hot and humid weather. This job does not and will not require the person to use pesticides, but you may be around or exposed to these chemicals (proper safety training will be given upon hire). If you can read a map, follow directions and have a keen eye we would like to speak with you. This is a seasonal position. The season for this position lasts from now until late September. If you are a good fit, there are opportunities to work through the fall and winter, either in the garden or with another department in the company. Pay starts at $9/hr. You will be working for a world-renowned botanical garden and plant nursery. JLBG's aim is to be the most unique botanic garden in the world. In the quest for new plants, JLBG has initiated over 80 botanical expeditions both domestic and international, since 1994. JLBG also works closely with the top plant explorers and breeders around the world to grow and evaluate the best in new ornamental plants. The garden currently has over 22,000 taxa - an incredible array of plant diversity. You may also be asked to participate in the following as needed: • Perform horticultural maintenance in the display gardens, including weeding, raking, watering, fertilizing and mulching. • Assist with installing new plant cultivars in the display gardens. • Collect plant material for propagation. • Assist with grounds maintenance, including creating new planting beds and repairing existing ones. Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience in facilities and maintenance work. Preferably in a nursery/greenhouse setting. This individual must be physically able to perform physical counts of product to ensure the accuracy of inventory in accordance to company policy and procedures.
